Favorite track: Dreaming in Slow Motion.

about

On this album, I have been investigating generative patterns – sequences that gradually evolve over time. Most of the pieces here started off as a generative sequence.

Recorded in Hebden Bridge between April 2022 and December 2023.
All recordings by Colin Robinson in Hebden Bridge, except:
Jim Ramsden: voice and howling
Nigel Lawson: voice
Nadia Robinson: blowing through a straw
Rick Holstead: footsteps running away in Sevilla.
And thanks to Simon Partridge for providing half a line of a lyric – his full sentence was “You’ve swapped the machine-guns and gas masks for dresses !”, but I couldn’t make that fit.

Field recordings made in Hebden Bridge, Manchester, Bilbao and Sevilla.
Listen out for the great spotted woodpecker drumming and the roe deer stag barking.

As always, the titles are of the utmost importance; they explain everything.

The photo was taken in Oxford in 1912.
It shows the marriage of my Great Aunt Amy Robinson to Frank Wale.
The lady on the far left is my Great Grandmother Fanny Robinson.

"So inventive, piquant and sonically promiscuous." - Phil South

"Shades of John Carpenter" - John Hatch

"I have been dipping into this all day. One of my fave JHC albums already." - Zulu Dalek

"Damn fine collection of tunes." - Hans Werksman, Here Comes The Flood weblog

"I’ve been enjoying this wonderful release all morning. Highly recommended for all who love original adventurous high quality music." - Jeffrey Ronald Birr

"Robinson has created a bunch of songs that will strike a chord with fans of Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits. It is a damn fine example of eclectic eccentrism - baffling at times, but also a showcase of wondrous experimentation within self-imposed restraints." - Hans Werksman, Here Comes The Flood weblog

"This album is, in a very real way, a rendition of a spirit of place. It's immediately apparent that the theme running though this album is death... what this album most reminded me of was a medieval danse macabre... And, like its medieval counterpart, it's not a solemn affair. On the contrary, it laughs in the face of the Grim Reaper, albeit in a slightly off-kilter, unsettling sort of way." - Dominic Rivron, As It Happens blog

"Another Winner Colin..... :) " - Mike Honour
