about

A collection of short soundtrack pieces created for animations that don’t exist yet, hypothetical schools programmes in need of a theme, '70s American cop shows and whimsical yet sinister children's shows

Film-makers, feel free to use these pieces as long as you credit me.

“Santa’s Works Band” was written especially for Craig Manga’s Xmas Planet Special show on Sine FM radio.

Performances, production and engineering by Colin Robinson, all recordings made in Hebden Bridge between January and December 2017.
Cover art by Colin Robinson

The Kingdom of Elmet was an independent Brittonic kingdom between about the 5th century and early 7th century. Little is known about it and its precise borders are unclear, but it appears to cover what later became the West Riding of Yorkshire. The Northumbrians invaded and overran Elmet in 616 or 617. The kingdom’s name survives in three villages; Barwick-in-Elmet, Scholes-in-Elmet and Sherburn-in-Elmet. Poet Ted Hughes and photographer Fay Godwin released a book “Remains of Elmet” in 1979, covering the Calder Valley (which was the western extremity of Elmet).

"A barking and crooked carnival that pretty much apes perfectly your expectant imagining of something so titled, as though stepping from a Dickensian festive scene, this screwball and skedaddled symphony finds itself a surreal safe spot somewhere between Raymond Scott’s power house sounds and Burton’s ‘the nightmare before Christmas’ to festively oompah out an utter merry madness. Ridiculously essential." - Mark Barton's Sunday Experience.

"Like Zappa's Peaches en Regalia played on a fairground organ" - Gareth Jones

"It's got a very hipster, funky feel to it... I have a vision of elves gyrating to the music..." - Robyn E

"it's easy to picture a colourful pied-piper leading The Carthaginian Army Advances Through Gaul, with Hannibal's elephants gently swaying to the back beat.... Robinson always lets his imagination run free, so he won't mind when others do the same." - Hans Werksman, Here Comes The Flood weblog

"The missing link between calypso and blind, irrational fear. Imagine if ambient music was weapon, not wallpaper. Think Mr Pastry jamming with Surströmming down at Lumbutts Throat Singing Circle. It isn't like that." - Knackers Magazine

"Very groovy, funky eccentric stuff." - Peter K Rollings of Experimental Sonic Machines

"Spooky and wonderful things going on" - Rhythmic Robot Audio
